Distinguished Achievement Award

Larisa Hovannisian ’09

Larisa Hovannisian is a passionate changemaker. Her journey began at St. Norbert College, where studying international business under Joy Pahl (Business) ignited her drive for social impact. This spark grew into a lifelong mission that led her to found Teach For Armenia, one of the country’s largest educational nonprofits, striving for educational equity and systemic change for over 30,000 students across Armenia, accounting for 10 percent of all kids in the country. Larisa’s work is deeply rooted in the belief that education is a cornerstone of societal transformation.

Larisa started her career as a special education teacher in Arizona through Teach For America, an organization working to eliminate educational inequity in America. Inspired by this, she returned to Armenia and established Teach For Armenia, using her platform to foster growth in the nation’s education system. Larisa’s leadership has not only been recognized by her community but also by the Armenian government, honoring her impact in 2016.

Her commitment to the wellbeing of others extends beyond education. Larisa is co-founding a new initiative, Health For Armenia, designed to place talented physicians in Armenia's most underserved regions. This new project mirrors her belief that Armenia's people are its most valuable resource and that investing in their education and health can lead to a more peaceful and sustainable future.

For her tireless dedication to applying her talents, heart and vision to the betterment of society, Larisa Hovannisian is a worthy recipient of the Distinguished Achievement Award.
