Alma Mater Award
Sean Ramsey ’90
SA native of Chicago and a first-generation college student, Sean Ramsey's journey to St. Norbert College began thanks to a former Norbertine priest. As one of just three African American students on campus at the time, Sean’s experience at SNC profoundly shaped his outlook, teaching him to see beyond race and value the uniqueness of individuals. These lessons, paired with a liberal arts education, have been integral to his professional and personal success.
Sean currently serves as vice president of sales at Grainger Inc., managing a $1.6 billion portfolio and overseeing over 400 team members across the U.S. His leadership is defined by inclusivity and mentorship, driven by his passion for creating spaces where everyone can be their authentic selves. Alongside his corporate career, Sean serves as Pastor of Bethany Evangelical Lutheran Church in Chicago, demonstrating a deep commitment to community service.
Throughout his career, Sean has taken on leadership roles at major corporations such as Sears Holdings and Motorola. In addition to his professional achievements, he has dedicated himself to empowering African American youth, launching scholarship programs, youth retreats and community initiatives aimed at addressing critical needs. Most recently, he helped establish a health-focused food program for the elderly and facilitated a COVID-19 vaccination site in underserved neighborhoods.
Sean’s servant leadership extends to board positions with Chicago Youth Centers and iMentor, and he was named one of the "2024 Men of Excellence" by the Chicago Defender. His legacy is one of profound impact, both professionally and in his community. Today, he continues to mentor future leaders and serves as a role model for African American professionals striving to break barriers in corporate America.
The college is proud to honor Sean Ramsey as the 2024 recipient of the Distinguished Service Award.
