Benjamin Rieth ’17

Benjamin Rieth embodies the spirit of inclusivity and community that is central to the mission of St. Norbert College. He graduated from SNC with a degree in music liberal arts and a minor in leadership studies, during which time he actively participated in programs fostering a sense of belonging, including the STAR program for multicultural students. As a proud gay man and enrolled member of the Bad River Band of the Lake Superior Chippewa, Benny’s journey has been one of embracing his identities and advocating for others.

Benny's professional journey reflects his unwavering dedication to advancing diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI) in higher education. In July 2024, he was appointed vice president of student affairs, enrollment and belonging at Bellin College, where he previously served as the director of student affairs and DEI. His career spans esteemed institutions such as Marquette University and the University of Wisconsin-Green Bay, where he has designed and implemented programs that promote student success and cultivate inclusive learning environments. Benny is an active leader in the field, serving on boards for NASPA—Student Affairs Administrators in Higher Education and the American College Personnel Association (ACPA). Additionally, he is the founder of BelongingU: Rieth Strategy Solutions, where he is dedicated to transforming higher education, student affairs and institutional culture through innovative strategies that prioritize belonging and equity.

Benny's research focuses on student belonging, particularly through Indigenous paradigms, culminating in a doctorate of education in educational leadership with an emphasis in equity from New England College in 2023. He has written numerous articles and journal entries that explore these themes, offering insights into how educational spaces can foster inclusivity and support for all student populations. Benny has received numerous accolades for his contributions to the field, including the 2022 NASPA Region IV-East New Professional of the Year Award, the 2024 NASPA Indigenous Scholar of the Year Award, and the 2022 College Student Champion Award.

Beyond his professional roles, Benny actively mentors students and professionals in student affairs, emphasizing the importance of creating spaces where everyone feels welcome. His dedication to fostering community and belonging reflects the values instilled in him during his time at SNC. Benny's journey is marked not only by his professional achievements, but also by his passion for creating a more equitable world for all.

For his dedication to service, advocacy and community-building, Benjamin Rieth is a deserving recipient of the Young Alumni Award.
