Emily Herzfeldt

Graduate Student Intern

B.S. English as a Second Language Education, University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee
M.S. Professional Counseling, Clinical Mental Health, University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh (December 2024)

I am currently a second year master’s student at the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh, graduating next December with a professional counseling degree. Working with people is my passion, and I have spent the last 10 years working mostly with children and young adults in various roles. I left my teaching career and decided to go back to school to become a counselor to be able to join individuals on their journey to growth, change, and healing. People often seek help when there is growing discomfort in their lives, and I aspire to empower individuals to find meaning and connection. I believe each person is the expert of their own life and has the capability within themself to cultivate change.

As a counselor, I aim to meet each client with empathy and understanding as my authentic self, following a client-centered approach with the intention of establishing and building a relationship that can be a catalyst for growth and healing. I encourage a collaborative, therapeutic relationship that incorporates discussion, problem solving, and skill building. I utilize components from cognitive behavioral therapy, acceptance and commitment therapy, and relational-cultural therapy. When counseling, I integrate mindfulness and somatic practices with a focus on self-compassion. My areas of interest include relationship issues, anxiety, depression, life transitions, stress management, self-esteem, ADHD, and Autism Spectrum Disorder.
