Waste Not, Want Not

Once dinner is done, the counters wiped down and clean dishes put away, it’s time to take out the trash. For the college’s kitchen staff, that means a short trip to the compactor and a remarkably light load. They’re intent on making sure, after each meal, they send less than a single garbage bag of waste to the landfill.

Minority VoteMinority Vote
More than half a century ago, John F. Kennedy became the first – and so far the only – Catholic president in American history. This landmark election, says Larry McAndrews (History, Emeritus), introduced a whole new era of influence.

CEBAStudent Research Impacts Region
Student-led research through the new Center for Business & Economic Analysis is already having a regional impact. “We don’t need to hold hands with these students because they’re that good,” says Jamie O’Brien (Business Administration).

News of St. Norbert

Revisiting History

When students in the Contemporary Photographic Strategies course taught by Brandon Bauer (Art) were drawn to recreations of historic photos, it prompted a search in the college archives for an image that they themselves could recreate.

Remarkable Twin Seasons for Hoops

None of the Green Knights on the men’s basketball team were out of high school the last time St. Norbert lost a game in conference play. The team’s extraordinary 64-win streak toppled the national Div. III record and remained broken as they headed into the NCAA tournament.

Calling a New Generation
An influx of new vocations is enriching the communities of the St. Norbert Abbey and its independent daughter abbeys in Pennsylvania and New Mexico – and many of those joining the order are alumni of the college.
Supplied for All Good Work
Leaders of a medical service trip returning to Nicaragua knew just how poorly supplied the local clinics there were. This time around, they took vital medical equipment with them along with their willing hands.
Connections Feed Alumni-Led Gatherings
There’s a special kinship that exists among St. Norbert alumni, even if they’re from different generations, professions or regions. Those eager to connect are finding it simpler than ever to make memories at events they create themselves.

Regular Features

In My Words/The View in the Crystal Ball
“We are in the Great Shaking,” says President Tom Kunkel, “[and] higher education is not immune. Study a college president these days and you may well detect some disorientation there, too, as our own industry pitches and rolls.”
Alumni Profile: Words to the Wise
By day, he teaches English at Luxemburg-Casco High School. Nights, weekends and any other time he can manage, he’s tapping away on his laptop. Scott Winkler ’93 is addicted to words.
Big Picture/Blossom Forth
No one relishes the promise of spring more than those who have endured a Wisconsin winter. And no better a place to soak in all the loveliness of our campus than the Shakespeare Garden at the heart of it all.
