Intro to Fluid Mechanics

This course introduces fluid properties (density, viscosity, surface tension); fluid statics, kinematics and dynamics; dimensional analysis (Reynolds, Froude, Mach, Euler’s numbers) and flow characterization; stress-strain relationships; control volume analysis, continuum mechanics; conservation laws for mass, momentum, and energy; applications including interactions between fluids and particles, sedimentation of slurries, incompressible flow in pipes, open channel flows with hydraulic structures, laminar and turbulent mixing and wave dynamics. Prerequisites: MATH 233 or instructor’s consent.
