• Selected participant's housing will be assigned prior to the regular housing lottery selection process.
• Housing options for second year students may include (with exceptions) MMM, VMC, St Joseph Double, Burke Double, Sensenbrenner Triple.
• Housing options for third and fourth year students may include (with exceptions) Premontre/Xanten, Gries Hall, Hugh Hall, St Joseph Double, Carriage House, Townhouses, Burke Double, VMC Hall.
• Maximum of up to TWO international students can be assigned to an applying group, or ONE international student if you are applying alone.
• Be aware that your roommate may not be fluent in English.
• All members of the group are expected to meet Student Judicial Affairs requirements and applicants on Disciplinary Probation may be subject to further screening.
• Most importantly, this program comes with the expectation that you will engage with the international roommate(s) in ways that help them acclimate, get involved, and feel welcomed here at SNC.

Qualifications

• Students must have reached second, third or fourth year status when they move-in.
• All members should be in good academic standing, defined in the Citizen as a cumulative grade point average above 2.0.
• Registered SNC student: All individuals listed on the application must be enrolled students at St. Norbert College registered for 12 or more credits at the time of application.

Expectations

International Roommate Program Expectations

This program involves some (limited) required attendance of supportive campus events/programs and communication with trained REH and CGE student and/or professional staff. This may include a welcoming social for all participating global roommates groups, filling out two quick "check-in" forms during the first semester, and completing a final evaluation of the experience at the end of the term/year.

We expect that you will respond in a timely manner to emails sent to you by the student or professional staff of REH and CGE regarding emails that pertain to the global roommate program.

You may not receive an international roommate initially. If you do not, we may have mid-semester or mid-year international students to house. As participants in the program, REH reserves the right to ask that you keep the extra bed/room space vacant for these students, unless we inform you otherwise.

MOST IMPORTANTLY, this program comes with the expectation that you will engage with your international roommate(s) in ways that help them acclimate, get involved, and feel welcomed.

• Showing minimal (expected) effort may include, but is not limited to, the following: Showing the international student around the residence hall/room, going over roommate and communication expectations (including their thoughts/ideas), making sure you communicate that they can come to you for questions, inviting them along for roommate activities if you have them (E.G. meals, gym time, grocery runs, etc.), notifying someone from CGE or REH if you or your international roommate(s) are experiencing issues or an emergency, and asking them about their expectations of their study abroad experience and doing what you realistically can do to help them reach those goals.

If we find that these minimal efforts to include/engage are not being made, you may be required to meet with the Community Assistant (CA) assigned to focus on the engagement and inclusion of international students. This CA will also be available to assist with questions and concerns you have throughout the year.
