Boys Leadership Camp to Debut This Summer

A new Boys Overall Leadership & Development (BOLD) Camp is set for July. The camp, intended for boys in grades four through eight, is inspired by the success of Girls Leadership & Development (GLAD) Camp, soon to begin its fifth year on campus.

BOLD Camp will focus on building self-confidence and leadership skills while also enhancing appreciation and respect for others, promoting healthy life choices, and instilling the values of teamwork, integrity and brotherhood.

Amy Sorenson (President’s Office), coordinator of the BOLD Camp project, expects it to mirror the success of GLAD Camp, which began with 13 girls in 2008 and now boasts an enrollment of 200 and a waiting list.

“Boys face their own challenges in developing as leaders who act with assurance, integrity and compassion,” Sorenson says. “They need to build their communication skills; they need to learn to engage effectively with others; and in particular, they need to discover their authentic selves – who they really are, who they want to be, and what they stand for. BOLD Camp will help guide them along that path to discovery, and we’re confident it will be well-received.”

The camp will be held the week of July 22-26, from 8 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. each day. Participants will be taught in a fun, supportive atmosphere by Wisconsin-certified male teachers chosen for their ability to serve as positive role models.

Schwabe North America and the Green Bay Packers have stepped forward as lead sponsors, allowing the camp to charge only a modest registration fee, which will also cover daily snacks, lunch, camp T-shirts and an end-of-camp family celebration. A limited number of scholarships are available.
