Meet the Class of 2017

They’ve never attended a concert in a smoke-filled arena; they’ve never had to depend on getting to their friends’ houses so they could study together; and they’ve known only two United States presidents since they grew old enough to take an interest in public events.* All the same, members of St. Norbert’s Class of 2017 enter college with rich experiences and many not-inconsiderable achievements to their collective name. Here’s our annual snapshot of our first-year class, who began their college journey last Monday. We can’t wait to see what they’ll do next!

• 1 earned a 36 on the ACT – the highest score possible.
• 1 had an article published in The New York Times.
• 1 was invited to play for the U.S. baseball team in the Dominican Republic – one of only 20 high-school players selected.
• 151 have a family member who graduated from or currently attends St. Norbert College.
• 110 were elected to their high school student government; 13 served as class president.
• 4 were voted prom queen.
• 4 have earned a black belt in karate; 2 earned a black belt in tae kwon do; 1 earned a second-degree black belt.
• 2 were People to People ambassadors in countries including Ireland, Wales, the Netherlands, Belgium and France.
• 1 was enrolled in 14 International Baccalaureate courses; 1 student was enrolled in 13 Advanced Placement courses.
• 1 was deaf since birth until a special operation restored hearing.
• 1 has lived in 14 different cities in 14 years due to their father’s NHL career.
• 5 incoming United States students studied abroad in high school.
• 183 were members of the National Honor Society, with 6 serving as president of their honor society.
• 157 were selected as captain of a varsity sport, with 6 serving as captains for three different sports. 
• 40 were All-Conference athletes.
• 12 students were state champions; 3 were awarded the state championship twice.
• 22 participated in Badger Boys/ Girls State.
• 8 earned the rank of Eagle Scout; 4 received the Bronze Award; 2 received the Silver Award; 2 received the Gold Award.
• 19 completed more than 100 hours of community service; one completed more than 3,000 hours.
• They have participated in mission trips in the Dominican Republic, Haiti, Jamaica, Mexico, Panama and Saint Lucia; and, in the United States, in Appalachia and in Illinois, Idaho, Kansas, Kentucky, Louisiana, Pennsylvania, Maine, Maryland, Minnesota, Missouri, Montana, Nebraska, Nevada, Ohio, South Dakota, Tennessee and Wisconsin.
• They hail from Alaska, Arizona, California, Colorado, Florida, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, Minnesota, Nebraska, New York, Pennsylvania, Texas, Virginia and Wisconsin – as well as from Canada, China, the Gaza Strip, Malaysia, Saudi Arabia and Sweden.
