Community-Wide Conversation Focuses on Recruiting and Retaining Young Talent

A significant discussion on regional progress – and ways to relay that progress to members of Generation Y, in particular – kicks off at St. Norbert on Oct. 15.  

Futurist, economist and author Rebecca Ryan will talk about means by which communities like the Greater Green Bay area can enhance their ability to recruit and retain the next generation of talent.

Ryan’s keynote presentation takes place in the context of “See the Future,” a morning’s worth of networking and conversation that will also include presentations by St. Norbert’s President Tom Kunkel, President John Raymond of the Medical College of Wisconsin (which opens its satellite campus at St. Norbert in 2015) and other community leaders.

Kunkel says “We're delighted to be hosting this groundbreaking regional conference. On the one hand it will be reminding everyone how much progress the Green Bay area has made in the past decade. But Ms. Ryan will be helping us understand too what we need to do to ensure that we continue that progress.”

It’s not by mere chance that St. Norbert is partnering with A Greater Green Bay: Better by the Bay for this event. As Bridget Krage O’Connor ’93 (President’s Office) explains, the college is educating the next generation of young talent and takes a serious interest in their future. O’Connor, Kunkel’s senior adviser for strategic initiatives, also serves on the board of A Greater Green Bay: Better by the Bay, hosts of the "See the Future" event. This local consortium dedicated to enhancing the recognition of the area is sponsoring the Oct. 15 event.

Ryan, whose new book “ReGENERATION: A Manifesto for America’s Future Leaders” will be launched at the conference, has helped cities and companies nationwide think about what’s next for their communities. As founder and co-owner of Next Generation Consulting in Madison, Wis., she has been widely recognized as a resource for leaders who want to attract and retain the next generation of creative workers. 

Ryan is the resident futurist at Alliance for Innovation and a senior fellow at CEOs for Cities, and also serves on the board of the World Academy for Entrepreneurship & Enterprise (WAE2).

A discussion for the future
“See the Future” sets a morning agenda that includes a celebration of the progress Greater Green Bay has made over the past 10 years. Kunkel and Raymond, along with other community leaders, will welcome attendees and discuss St. Norbert College’s partnership with the Medical College of Wisconsin (MCW) to educate, train and place physicians in the region.

After Ryan’s presentation, a question-and-answer session is scheduled as well as the book launch. Registration and networking will begin at 7:30 a.m., and the program will run from 8:30 to 10:30 a.m.

Tickets are $20. All members of the area are invited to this event, which is targeted particularly to CEOs, marketing and human resource teams and young professionals.
