Internships

We dedicate our careers to helping you build yours

At St. Norbert College in Wisconsin, we help you make a solid plan to achieve your career goals as you complete your degree program. Through our office of career and professional development (CAPD), we offer hands-on learning opportunities and supportive career services, including internship planning. Not sure what you want to do? No problem! Foundational assessments offered through CAPD will help you focus your interests and determine possible career paths.

Employers and graduate school admission committees alike look for people with experience — we’ll help you get it. CAPD will help connect you with academic internships that give you the opportunity to explore potential future career paths while expanding your professional network.

Explore what’s in store for you at SNC. We have your future in mind!

From internships to student-teaching, professional work in college can help you learn a lot about yourself — what you enjoy doing, what makes you feel fulfilled and what type of work environment you prefer. You’ll get a little experience under your belt, which will put you ahead when it comes to your job search after college.

While these are great reasons to intern, another to consider is the time-limited nature of a college internship. You have no long-term obligation, so an internship is a wonderful way to try a role without making a commitment. Plus, once you finish an internship, you can pursue others with the same or similar companies, or get help targeting future roles that are a better fit.

Internships often lead to positive student outcomes with full-time employment after graduation. Just over 70 percent of employers end up offering their interns full-time positions, so if you find that the position was a good fit, that short-term commitment can really pay off!

SNC students land academic internships with huge corporations, mid-sized companies and public organizations, such as:

  • American Cancer Society
  • American Red Cross
  • City of Green Bay
  • Ernst & Young
  • Fox River Fiber
  • Georgia Pacific
  • Kimberly-Clark
  • Milwaukee Children's Hospital
  • Milwaukee Journal Sentinel
  • National Railroad Museum
  • Oshkosh Corporation
  • Reader’s Digest
  • Zoological Society of Milwaukee

Whether you want to intern at a Fortune 100 company, a local small business or a nonprofit that makes an impact, SNC will help you form the right connections.

As part of the career services we extend, CAPD walks you through the interning process which starts with an assessment of your interests, goals, strengths and areas of challenge. From there, we’ll help you build your resume and work on interview skills, and teach you how to use LinkedIn and Handshake to search for opportunities. We’ll also work with you on finding ways to earn academic credit for your experience.

Getting academic credit for your internship or field experience requires a little planning, but it’s well worth it. The first step is to register for a formal academic internship course. We’ll help you get connected with an on-site supervisor and a collaborating SNC faculty member. You’ll work with your mentors to set learning objectives and create a Learning Agreement that shows how the skills you learn through your internship apply to your future career plans and your degree program path. Through the internship process, they’ll work to help ensure that you stay on track to meet your learning objectives.
