Super Bowl Sunday
Ahead of the big game, Mark Glantz (Communication & Media Studies) took a look at the year’s biggest ad spend through a COVID lens. He saw that pandemic life had left marketers with a real creative dilemma – one that left some companies on the sidelines when it came to Super Bowl commercials. By the way, in other NFL news, we have a Packers MVP of our own on campus these days. Well, an MVM at any rate. Dean Stewart (Center for Exceptional Leadership) was named most valuable mentor for the Green Bay Packers Mentor-Protégé Program.
President’s Day
President Brian Bruess ’90 and Carol (Sessler) Bruess ’90 celebrated Presidents’ Day Feb. 15 by helping Admissions’ tour guide Amanda Reding ’21 (above) give campus tours to prospective students and their families.
In other Admissions news, the college continues to offer in-person tours for future students. WBAY-TV News stopped by campus later in the same week to see how the college had adapted its tours for prospective students and their families with safety in mind.
Ash Wednesday
Chef Dan Froelich (Dining Services) offered up a recipe for his Belizean black bean garnachas in a recent article in The Compass, the newspaper of the Diocese of Green Bay. Froelich told The Compass: “When my wife, Mary Anne, and I were in Belize visiting our son Andy, who was stationed in Punta Gorda with the Jesuit Volunteer Corps, we were fortunate to enjoy many meals with Andy’s friends,” said Froelich. “The black bean garnachas were one dish that really stood out and we were able to really enjoy with our new Belizean friends. I have made these garnachas many times for our family and friends and they are always a success. They are easy to make and really delicious.”
If it’s February, it must be time for our State of the Economy address …
The State of the Economy address offered by Marc Schaffer (Economics) and his student researchers (this year Emily O’Leary ’21, pictured, and Peyton Jack ’21) has become an annual fixture on the Wisconsin business calendar. This year, Schaffer provided insights on a recent study from the Wisconsin Counties Association that examined some of the impacts of COVID-19 on the regional economy and its employment picture.
… and, speaking of COVID time …
Two SNC teacher candidates, Sara Allaire ’21 and Isabelle Robertson ’21, were highlighted in a news story on how the pandemic has affected student teachers.
