Institutional Research and Surveys

The Office of Institutional Effectiveness provides support to administrators, faculty, staff and students at the institution by collecting, analyzing, interpreting, and disseminating data and information.  In doing so, the office facilitates and informs institutional planning and decision making.  While much of our research is derived from surveys, we also conduct analyses on institutional data, especially data regarding student retention.

The following resources are available for the SNC campus (log-in required).

Surveys

Survey Results and Reports

  • A folder containing information on surveys conducted by OIE.  Includes results from our annual snapshot of out student body (SNC Current Student Survey), new student data, graduation and alumni data, and more.  A great resource for faculty and staff looking to learn more about the college.

Common Data Set

  • The Common Data Set (CDS) is a collaborative effort among the higher education community and publishers, as represented by the College Board, Peterson’s Guides, and U.S. News & World Report. Data are presented in the same “common” format used by most institutions of higher education to facilitate comparisons among institutions. The combined goal of this collaboration is to improve the quality and accuracy of information provided to all involved in a student’s transition into higher education, as well as to reduce the reporting burden on data providers. For more information go to the Common Data Set website.

Retention Data

The vast majority of students who are admitted to the college complete their degree here, but some do not. Who stays, who leaves, and why?

  • Retention Research and Reports (2000-2012)
    • An archive of major retention reports and summaries, and of retention studies conducted by our office, organized by topic.
  • Retention Research and Reports (2013-present)
    • More recent research on retention, including variables differentiating students who re-enroll and those who leave the institution; analyses of Exit Survey data; and retention rates by student demographic variables (Equity Scorecards)
  • SNC Historical Retention (last 5 years)
    • Aggregated retention data, including a number of variables such as gender, average GPA, ACT, average loan, unmet need, dismissed students, and average credits earned.  SNC log-in required.

IPEDS

The annual IPEDS Data Feedback Report provides a graphic overview of statistics for St. Norbert College compared to a group of similar institutions. The Integrated Postsecondary Education Data System (IPEDS) collects data from higher education institutions that are eligible to receive Title IV funding.  These data are then used at federal and state levels for policy analysis and development, and at the institutional level for benchmarking and peer analysis.  The peer institutions in SNC's comparison group are listed on page 2 of these documents. Additional information about IPEDS can be found at https://nces.ed.gov/ipeds
