The United States education system is undergoing rapid transformation. Today’s teachers are trailblazers in addressing the needs of K-12 students of any physical or intellectual ability, race, gender or socioeconomic status. Technology has become integral to the learning experience in ways we couldn’t have previously imagined. When you earn your undergraduate degree in teaching, your positive impact will be felt by the students in your classroom and will ripple far beyond the classroom, too. It’s an exciting time to get your teaching degree — especially at St. Norbert College.
As a teacher-education major at SNC, you’ll be introduced to a variety of teaching situations, from urban to rural, and even have the chance to explore global approaches to education. We’ll make sure you learn how to help K-12 students and families feel comfortable enough to have constructive conversations about challenging educational situations. In short, SNC is where you can learn how to be the kind of teacher whose impact outlives a student’s time in your classroom.
All certification pathways are approved by the Wisconsin Department of Instruction. Documentation of program approval can be found on the DPI website annual report page.
At SNC, you can earn a bachelor’s degree and complete a teacher preparation program leading to certification in one of the following developmental levels:
Your experiences in the four-year teacher-education program will include:
You’ll benefit from hands-on learning at SNC, and get out into a real-life classroom as part of your first-year education classes. During your sophomore and junior years, you’ll spend five weeks collaborating and co-teaching in the classroom. Your senior year will be marked by real-world teaching experiences in rural, suburban and urban settings. Ultimately, you’ll build a strong understanding of the challenges faced by students — and you’ll have the knowledge to provide life-changing learning experiences for the students you teach.
SNC hosts local chapters of Aspiring Educators and the Center for Urban Teaching Club. Aspiring Educators is the National Education Association’s organization for pre-service teachers. The Center for Urban Teaching is an independent, Christian non-profit organization that supports current and future teachers who work in urban settings.
